Gender, Performativity, Play along with Illuminations and Boston College-Ireland, Tina Kinsella and Michael O’Rourke are delighted to announce that internationally renowned theorist, artist, and psychoanalyst Bracha Ettinger will open an exhibition of her recent work at NUIM the week of October 6th, 2014.
Prof Ettinger will also facilitate a symposium, a seminar/master class on Ettingerian Studies and a post-graduate workshop during that week. Currently a Professor at the European Graduate School, in Saas-Fee, Switzerland, Bracha L. Ettinger’s ideas achieved recognition in cultural theory, psychoanalysis and French feminism after the publication of “Matrix and Metramorphosis” (1992), fragments from her notebooks (Moma, Oxford, 1993) and The Matrixial Gaze (1995). Over the last two decades her work has been influential in art history, film studies (including feminist film theory), Aesthetics, and Gender Studies.
Prof Ettinger’s artwork has exhibited widely including at the Pompidou Centre, MOMA, the Freud Museum, and her cutting edge theory and work has attracted commentators and advocates such as Jean François Lyotard, Judith Butler, Emmanuel Levinas, Griselda Pollock and Nicholas Bourriard to name but a few.
The launch of the exhibition will include a public lecture by Prof Ettinger, but places for the seminar and workshop will fill up quickly so please make a note in your diaries and indicate your interest by emailing moynagh.sullivan@nuim.ie indicating whther you are interested in the master-class/seminar or the postgraduate workshop.
